Xiandu, literally meaning capital of immortals, is located in Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province. It was named after the two Chinese characters Xian Du by Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty after he exclaimed the place as a gathering spot of immortals. The scenic area covers a land area of 5.23 km2 and is composed of five scenic spots, i.e. Dinghu Peak, Mini Red Cliff, Xiandu Taoist Temple, Niweng Cave, and Mount Zhutan.
Xiandu is a national scenic area and first batch of national 4A-level scenic area. Zigzagging Lianxi River, together with Ten-Mile Riverside Scenic Belt shows spectacular peaks and rocks, charming landscape, profound accumulation of cultures and numerous scenic spots, which earned the scenic area reputations for being comparable with Guilin in beauty, Mount Yellow in grotesque and Mount Hua in steepness. The scenic area is dedicated to building Famous Mountain of Yellow Emperor Culture in China with numerous scenic spots worthy of visiting, including Dinghu Peak, praised as No.1 Stalagmite under the Sun since it’s the highest single stalagnate in the world; Lingxv Cave, a rare relic of volcanic eruption channel in the world; Huangdi Temple, No. 1 Temple in China as well as Huangdi worshipping center in south China; Worshipping Rite to Huangdi in Jinyun, a national intangible cultural heritage; Xiandu Cliff Inscriptions, a key cultural site under national protection; China Natural Studio, a designated location for shooting film and TV series in China; and Xiandu Romantic Greenway, the most beautiful recreational greenway in China.
